(Motorsports) Tough for Zulfahmi at Donington

KUALA LUMPUR: Zulfahmi Khairuddin struggled to make an impact at the United Kingdom round of the Supersport World Championship, finishing far from the points in the race at Donington today.

The Orelac Racing rider settled for 20th, 48.60 seconds behind Kenan Sofuoglu (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) of Turkey who took victory on 30:29.814s.

American Patrick Jacobsen (Honda World Supersport Team) and Randy Krummenacher (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) finished second and third, 1.569s and 3.775s behind Sofuoglu.

Zulfahmi's teammate Nacho Calero (Spain) fared no better as he placed 24th (+1:04.553s).

The Banting-born lad admitted that it was a poor week for him, especially after finishing second at Sepang a fortnight ago.

"The race today was really tough, in fact I struggled adapting to the track and the bike for the whole week," said the 24-year-old.

"We never really found a good setup for the bike here but we have learned a lot from this round."

Hopes of replicating his success at Sepang, which was his first podium since joining the superbike series this season, suffered a major setback after only managing 22nd in superpole (qualifying) yesterday.

The next round will be held at the Misano circuit in Italy on Jun 17-19.
