Villagers construct makeshift bridge to link Pos Terisu to Kuala Terla

CAMERON HIGHLANDS: The Pos Terisu villagers have built a temporary bridge to help them cross the river linking them to Kuala Terla after the original structure collapsed early yesterday.

Some 853 villagers at Pos Terisu have been left disconnected from Kuala Terla, which leads to the main road, after strong currents caused the 12.2m-long bridge to collapse.

Kuala Terla village head R. Santara Sakaran said the bridge was the only route for farmers to send their agriculture produce to the market and middlemen.

"Luckily, no one was injured during the incident.

"It also occured during the school holidays and as such, the children have not been affected,"he told the New Straits Times today.

He said that previously, villagers could transport vegetables and flowers out of Pos Terisu by 1pm daily.

"We could have completed five to six trips by 1pm," he said.

Cameron Highlands police chief Deputy Superintendent Zainalabidin Othman said the bridge collapsed due to the rise in the river water level after a downpour.

The bridge collapsed at the point where the Tringkap and Kuala Terla rivers met and entered the main Ulu Telom river.
