New concrete bridge in Rompin scheduled for construction in 2025

KUANTAN: The Pahang state government has announced the construction of a new concrete bridge in Section 2.8, Jalan Perwira Jaya - Selancar (FT2490).

Pahang Media on Jan 16 reported that the project is set to start in early 2025 following a series of preparatory steps.

State Public Works, Transport and Health Committee chairman Datuk Mohammad Fakhruddin Arif said that the bridge construction project had received approval from the Ministry of Economy.

"It will be implemented under Rolling Plan 4 of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), replacing a collapsed embankment with a modern concrete bridge," he said.

He added that JKR Malaysia has been designated as the head of the project team and is currently reviewing the project brief and scope.

He further said steps are being taken to appoint land surveyors and conduct soil investigations essential for the bridge's design preparation.

The tendering process, he said, is expected to take place at the end of 2024, with on-site construction work beginning in 2025.

The project is anticipated to have a two-year completion timeline, he added.

However, Mohammad Fakhruddin noted that the tendering and completion are subject to allocation approval and addressing various factors, including a thorough assessment of the affected area.

"We need to be thorough to avoid any unwanted incidents in the future," he said.

Pahang Media noted that an allocation of RM15.9 million has been set aside for the bridge, ensuring that all issues are effectively managed within a reasonable timeframe.

To keep the public informed about the project's progress, road users and interested parties are encouraged to refer to the official department portal and social media channels, it said.
