Pas: We're not being hasty in tabling amendments to Syariah Act

KOTA BARU: Pas is not being hasty in pushing for the amendments the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965, and is open for it to be debated.

Pas deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the party is ready to hold dialogues and discussions to explain the proposed amendments.

"These few months (before the bill is debated in October) will be used to study it.

"We are ready to hold dialogues with any party so they understand our responsibilities to empower the Syariah Courts," he said before launching the Pas Youth Muktamar here, today.

He said the amendments to the act, also known as Act 355, was the right of the Muslims, and it did not mean that the party did not recognise other religions.

"We are bringing an Islamic solution, because we are certain that Islam is for all.

"If we can accept other (legal) systems, why cant we study and accept this one?"

The Private Member's Bill was set to be tabled in Parliament by Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang in Parliament before it was moved to the next Parliament sitting.
