(Badminton) Msia mixed doubles crash and burn at Indonesia Open

MALAYSIA'S interest in the mixed doubles event at the Indonesia Open ended today following the exit of Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying.

In the opening round, Peng Soon-Liu Ying lost 21-18, 21-17 to the China's world No 1 Zhang Nan-Zhao Yunlei at the Istora Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta.

Peng Soon-Liu Ying, who have already won one title this year (New Zealand Open), will compete at the Australian Open on June 7-12 next.

Meanwhile, the first round for the men's singles, doubles and women's doubles at the Indonesia Open will start tomorrow.

Malaysian shuttlers who will compete in the main draw are former world No 1 Lee chong Wei, Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin, Goh Soon Huat, Zulfadli Zulkiffli, Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and Vivian Hoo Kah Mun-Woon Khe Wei.

Top men's doubles Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong, received a first round walkover after South Korea's Kim Gi Jung-Kim Sa Rang withdrew at the final hour.
