Fahmi Reza charged over clown caricature poster

KUALA LUMPUR: A graphic designer infamous for his clown caricature poster of the prime minister, was charged at the Sessions Court today.

Mohd Fahmi Reza Mohd Zarin, clad in black jacket and trousers while in the dock, claimed trial before judge Mohd Zulbahrin Zainuddin.

The 39-year-old was accused of uploading the picture with the words "Kami Semua Penghasut" via his Instagram account "kuasasiswa" on Jan 31.

Fahmi was alleged to have initiated the false communication of the picture with intent to annoy someone's feelings.

He was also purported to have read out the words accompanying the picture, at No. 35, Jalan BP 10/10, Bandar Bukit Puchong, Selangor, around 6pm on Feb 1.

He may be jailed up to a year, fined not more than RM50,000, or sentenced with both penalties if convicted under Section 233(1) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Zulbahrin granted RM5,000 bail with one surety and set June 17 for mention.

After open-court proceedings, Fahmi's lawyer Syahredzan Johan said his client would later be charged at the Ipoh Sessions Court in relation to a similar offence.

However, Syahredzan did not specify the exact date that Fahmi would be charged at the Ipoh Sessions Court.

Deputy public prosecutor Noor Svetlana Mohd Noor Nordin prosecuted.
