Reflections of a renewed drive

NEWS of the (purported) shutdown of the New Straits Times’ Cars Bikes and Trucks hogged the local automotive circle in the past few weeks. We know many a loyal reader and staunch supporter (automotive companies included) were sad and disappointed upon hearing about it, and shared their feelings on Facebook and Twitter.

Well, to those who are not well informed, we would like to clarify that CBT is still alive and producing. To everyone, this issue marks the beginning of a renewed enthusiasm—for cars, bikes and trucks, for the places they take us, and for the people we meet when we get there. And, we humbly seek your continued support and cooperation.

For 18 years, former Business Times writer Yamin Vong and his team had brought a compelling collection of narratives from every nook and cranny of auto enthusiasts’ world. He and his team undoubtedly put CBT where it is today — that, to many readers, without it on Sunday morning is like waking up on Monday morning.

The bar has been set high. Myself and the editorial team know the enormity of the responsiblility and anticipation to deliver.

Winston Churchill once said that to improve is to change. As we move forward and constantly respond to the demands of the fast changing digital era, we will keep you up to date on all new vehicles, with the most interesting ones getting significant space.

We commit ourselves to rev you up with excitement every time automotive manufacturers release new models and technologies or participate in glittering, benchmarking autoshows.

We will keep measuring the capabilities of the latest vehicles, and dialling into the thrills behind the wheel and the emotions that these fantastic machines evoke. Edgy, incisive, hard-hitting and balanced editorials on all transportation matters remain a mainstay.

Please leaf through this issue (and stands subsequent ones), as what stands out is a commitment to automotives and the broader transportation industry, with immersive longform stories that are full of character.
