Three in the dock for lodging false police reports

KULAI: Three people were hauled to the Magistrate's Court here for separately lodging false police reports about being robbed off their money and belongings between last Saturday and Monday.

One of them, lorry driver Kamaruddin Hassan, 52, pleaded guilty to a charge of lodging a false report at the Kulai district police headquarters about being robbed by two men at the Jalan Sengkang intersection, here about 12.30pm on Monday.

According to the facts of case, Kamaruddin admiited to lodging a false report and that he had actually misplaced his belongings and RM2,000.

The offence falls under Section 182 of the Penal Code for lodging a false report.

Magistrate Ahmad Farid Ahmad Kamal ordered Kamaruddin to be fined RM300 in default of seven days in jail.

Two other people were also fined today at the same court after pleading guilty to lodging false police reports.

Housewife Vani Gavindam, 39, was fined RM500 in default of seven days in jail for lodging a false report on being robbed at 12.30am on June 4.

The case facts revealed she lodged the false report due to stress because of her divorce and to avoid her mother from scolding her for spending RM500 that she took from her mother.

The third accused, Muhammad Haziq Baharudin was fined RM700 in default of seven days in jail.

The private sector worker pleaded guilty for lodging a false report on being robbed by four armed men in Bandar Putra Kulai at 4.50am on Saturday.

The court was told that after investigations, Haziq admitted to police he lodged the false report because he misplaced RM1,500 and was afraid that it would anger his fiancee.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Siti Noriha Jamal @ A. Jalal prosecuted for the three cases.

Kamaruddin, Vani and Haziq were represented by National Legal Aid Foundation lawyer K. Vijayan.
