Car painter faces second IS-related charge this week

KUALA LUMPUR: A car painter was charged at the Magistrate's court today with sending money to militant Muhammad Joraimee Awang Raimee of the Abu Sayyaf terror group last year.

Muhammad Aizam Mat Zin nodded his head as an indication that he understood the charge read to him before magistrate Siti Radziah Kamarudin. However, no plea was recorded.

Aizam, 39, was accused of knowingly dealing with a terrorist's property by channeling RM700 for the benefit of Joraimee who was a member of the Abu Sayyaf group.

The unrepresented accused was alleged to have committed the offence at a restaurant in Jalan 4/27A, Seksyen 2, Wangsa Maju here at 11pm on Dec 26, 2015.

If convicted, he shall be punished with imprisonment of not more than 20 years or fine and shall be liable to forfeiture of any property dealt with under Section 130Q(1) of the Penal Code.

The magistrate did not grant bail to the accused and fixed August 1 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Nordin Ismail prosecuted.

On Wednesday, Aizam was charged at the Petaling Jaya magistrate's court for having items linked to terror group Islamic State (IS) in his house.

The items were 65 A3-size papers and three A4-size stickers related to IS.

The case will be up for mention on July 29.
