Health Ministry waiting for police probe report on Syed Alman's death

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Health is still awaiting the outcome of police investigations on the death of the deputy prime minister’s son-in-law, Datuk Syed Alman Zain Syed Alwi.

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya said, that any action can only be taken after the reports by both sides are ready.

“Our (Health Ministry’s) investigation has been completed but we are not sure when the police report will be ready. We will take action in accordance with the Facilities and Services Act Private Healthcare 1998 [Act 586] while the police will act under the Criminal Procedure Code Act,” he said when met at the Parliament lobby here today.

However, Hilmi refused to disclose the findings of the ministry.

Syed Alman Zain, 44, husband of Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s eldest daughter, Datuk Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid, died on June 1 at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre after undergoing treatment at a private dental clinic in the capital.

Hilmi also said the dental clinic that treated Syed Alman Zain is now closed until the investigation or the case is settled.--BERNAMA
