[WATCH] Um, there's an ostrich on the Federal Highway...

KUALA LUMPUR: As the saying goes, "it's a jungle out there", and Kuala Lumpur drivers would probably have seen their share oddball sightings.

However, the spectacle of an ostrich running full speed on the fast lane of the Federal Highway must be something entirely new.

This was the highly unusual scene which took place this afternoon along what is usually regarded as the country's busiest stretch of road.

In a video posted to Facebook by user Jeff Sandhu, an ostrich was seen running in the midst of slow traffic, towards the direction of the city centre.

The 25 second video clearly shows the world’s largest bird scampering about scared, with the Menara Telekom looming in the background.

Other surrounding objects and landmarks suggest that the video was shot near the Universiti LRT station.

One car was even seen driving close to the bird, presumably to scare it away from the highway.

It is arguably among the most bizarre sightings ever caught on camera on a highway in Malaysia, as ostriches aren’t even a native species to the country.

How the bird ended up on the highway still remains a mystery.

According to the American Ostrich Association, ostriches can run up to 40 mph (64.3 km/h) for sustained periods of time, which will without a doubt will make life hard for City Hall or the Wildlife Department, to contain the bird.
