Police seize RM150k worth of fireworks in Durian Burung

KUALA NERANG: Police seized RM150,000 worth of firecrackes smuggled into this country through the Malaysia border in Durian Burung here.

The 35 boxes and 29 plastic containers of firecrackers, which came in various sizes, were seized from a house in Kampung Pong about five kilometres from the border at 12.15am on Thursday.

Padang Terap district police chief Deputy Superintendent Ahmad Nasir Jaafar said five men aged between 25 and 50 years old were arrested inside the house.

"We also seized RM20,790 and Thai Baht 31,000 in cash at the house," he told a press conference this afternoon.

He said the raid was conducted by a team from the 7th Battalion of the General Operations Force (PGA) Brigade Tenggara based in Kuantan Pahang which involved in the Malaysia-Thailand border operation in Kedah and Perlis.

"The firecrackers were smuggled through rat lanes in Durian Burung and it is for local market," he said.

Nasir added the men would be remanded for four days until tomorrow.
