Police seize RM1 million worth of drugs from Thai national

KOTA BARU: Police have arrested a Thai national and seized 100,000 methamphetamine pills worth more than RM1 million in an operation last night.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said the man was detained in the Tunjong area about 11.45pm.

He said also seized from the man was a Rolex watch.

"A police party saw the suspect when they arrived at the scene.

"Upon checking inside his bag, police found the pills weighing about 651 grams from him and later arrested the suspect," he said at a Press conference here today.

Zaki said initial investigation showed that the pills have been smuggled into Kelantan via an illegal jetty in Pasir Mas.

"We suspected the drugs were obtained from the neighbouring country and for the consumption of 100,000 addicts.

"The suspect who was tested positive for drugs, was also found entering this country without any proper document," he said.

He added the police are still investigating whether the foreigner was a member of a drug smuggling syndicate operating along the Kelantan/Thai border.

"We will contact our counterpart in Thailand to get further information on the suspect.

"The seizure was the biggest made by the state police involving methamphetamine pills during this monsoon season," he added.

Zaki said the foreigner, who has no previous record, has been remanded for seven days beginning today.
