Bring own containers to buy food to reduce use of plastic bags - Perlis Raja Muda

ARAU: The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, has suggested that the people bring along containers such as tiffin boxes to buy food for the breaking of fast so as to reduce the use of plastic bags and polystyrene containers.

The practice would also indirectly help in maintaining cleanliness and ensuring a sustainable environment, he told Bernama.

“A society with a first-class mentality plans what to buy, maintains cleanliness, abhors wastage and helps authorities like SWCorp which encourages recycling,” he said after a visit to the Ramadan Bazaar in Mata Ayer town here yesterday.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin was accompanied by Perlis Health director Dr Zaini Hussin, Perlis SWCorp assistant director (enforcement and regulatory) Mohd Shukor Bakar and Kangar Municipal Council secretary Wan Ahmad Fazli Wan Kamis.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin witnessed the distribution of free aprons to traders at the bazaar by the Health Department and the handing over of tiffin boxes by MPK and SWCorp to customers.

Earlier, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin presented contributions and tithes of RM600 each from the Perlis Islamic and Malay Customs Council to 30 people at the Mata Ayer Mosque and Kampung Oran Mosque. -- Bernama
