AirAsia refuses to acknowledge klia2 name: It's LCCT2 for us

SEPANG: Asia's largest low-cost carrier, AirAsia will continue to refer to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) as Low-Cost Carrier Terminal 2 (LCCT2).

This is despite klia2's airport operator, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) having clarified that the RM4.5 billion terminal remains known as klia2, last week.

AirAsia Bhd's Aireen Omar said the budget carrier's decision to change klia2's name as LCCT2 is a sign to MAHB to recognise the airline's identity as a key low-cost player not just in Malaysia but also Asean.

"We have tried so hard to work together with them (MAHB) to resolve all the outstanding issues regarding klia2 but it's difficult to get meetings with them.

"We feel that we have been taken advantage of...We could have worked together to maintain Malaysia's position as the world's largest low-cost hub and build so much more for Malaysia," Aireen told a media briefing at AirAsia's headquarters here.

She said that currently, Thailand's Don Mueang International Airport has surpassed Malaysia as the biggest low-cost airport in the world.
