KLIA Shooting: Suspect checked-in at Kota Baru hotel under different name

KOTA BARU: The suspect in the shooting at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Sunday stayed in a hotel here using another person's name to avoid detection.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the man, is originally from Selangor.

Shuhaily said the man was raised in Kuala Lumpur but also went to school in Pasir Mas, Kelantan.

Yesterday, it was reported that the suspect was arrested in a private hospital in Kelantan. He went there to collect a medical report.

Police also seized a Glock pistol, some bullets, Thai and Saudi Arabian currencies, an international passport, six mobile phones, and firecrackers from the suspect.

On the motive of the shooting, Shuhaily said police believed it was a personal problem between the suspect and his wife.

"The suspect will be brought back to Selangor today and police are expected to call in more witnesses."

He said police believe the case has been solved with the man's arrest.

"Please do not speculate anymore. To those involved in the case, l would like to advise them not to give any statement from now.

"Let us complete our investigation," he added.

On Sunday, the suspect opened fire at KLIA, injuring the bodyguard of his intended victim.

The bodyguard, who was injured and had to be put in an induced coma, is undergoing surgery.
