Showdown talks soon between MAHB, MOT and AirAsia

SEPANG: Showdown talks are expected to be held soon between Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), the Transport Ministry and AirAsia Bhd over the issue of Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2).

AirAsia and MAHB have been locked in a dispute over the last few weeks concerning the airport's name.

AirAsia wants the airport name to be changed to the Low Cost Carrier Terminal 2 (LCCT2) to reflect its position as a low-cost hub, while the authorities have maintained that the name will remain klia2.

MAHB managing director, Datuk Badlisham Ghazali said the airport operator is open for discussion on the matter to achieve a common goal, which is the growth of Malaysia's aviation industry.

"We will discuss among the three parties. It is unnecessary to drag this out in the public. I think all three parties want the same thing which is growth for the aviation industry," he said after the launch of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines' additional three weekly flights from Kuala Lumpur to Amsterdam.
