Adenan welcomes push to kickstart talk on devolution of powers

KUCHING: Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem has lauded the establishment of a technical committee to facilitate talks over devolution of powers between the Federal government and state governments of Sarawak and Sabah.

Adenan also said the formation of the technical panel also reflected the encouraging response from the Federal government over the negotiations.

“I welcome the approaches made to start the negotiation immediately,” said the chief minister in a statement today.

He was responding to an announcement made by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri over the setting up of the technical committee to assist in the second stage of the devolution talks.

The second stage would dwell on the state's rights (encroachment by Federal government on state power) and on constitutional matters.

Nancy had said that the committee would be made up of representatives nominated by the Federal government, state administration of Sabah and Sarawak as well as historians from both states.
