KUALA LUMPUR: Fifty-two motorists were slapped with summonses by the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police during the ‘Ops Selamat’ on PLUS Expressway near the Desa Petaling interchange here this afternoon.
City Traffic Enforcement and Operation officer ASP Leonard Lawrence Abbie said the two-hour operation which began at 5.30 pm aimed mainly at drivers who abused the emergency lane during the peak hour.
“During the operation, two officers and six traffic policemen were stationed at the location to stop motorists who abused the emergency lane.
“Most of those who were issued with summonses during the operation were women...probably because of lack of awareness about the use of emergency lane.
“I hope this will be a lesson for them and also for others,” he told reporters at the location.
Leonard said the city police would continue to carry out such an operation from time to time, especially at 10 main locations in the city, namely Jalan Kepong, Jalan Cheras, Middle Ring Road II, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Ipoh, Jalan Kuching, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Klang Lama, Jalan Duta and Jalan Sungai Besi. --BERNAMA
