Youth who stole pants to wear for first job jailed, fined

KUALA LUMPUR: When one lands their first job, it is usually celebrated with friends and family, but not Fariduddin Nasir, who is slapped with three days’ jail and a fine of RM600 by the Magistrate’s Court here today.

The punishment was meted out by Magistrate Mohd Rehan Mohd Aris after Fariduddin, 24, pleaded guilty to stealing two pairs of shirts and two pairs of slacks, worth RM359.50.

The offence was committed at Brands Outlet Sunway Putra Mall, Dang Wangi, here at 2.20 pm on July 12.

The charge, under Section 380 of the Penal Code, carries an imprisonment for up to 10 years and fine, upon conviction.

Mohd Rehan ordered Fariduddin to serve the jail sentence from the date of arrest, which was July 12, and to serve another month in jail if he failed to pay the fine.

Earlier during mitigation, Fariduddin, 24, who was unrepresented, said he was recently employed and did not have enough proper clothing to wear to work.
