Terengganu wants LPT2 toll charges reduced for now

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu government has voiced its disagreement with the toll charges imposed at the East Coast Highway 2 (LPT2), pending the upgrading of more infrastructure and safety features along the 184-kilometre highway.

It wants PLUS Sdn Bhd to immediately reduce the toll rates so as to reflect the current level of service quality provided at the highway.

Announcing this today, Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said the lack of infrastructure and safety features were sufficient grounds for the state government to ask the Federal government to reduce the current toll charges.

"Until the infrastructure and safety features are in place, we will not agree to the toll rates imposed at present," he told reporters at the Wisma Persekutuan open house here today

Ahmad Razif, however, conceded that toll collection was important as it would compel the concessionaire to improve the level of safety, such as to address the problem of the highway’s undulating surface as well as to improve other facilities.

Without toll collection, he said, no party will shoulder the responsibility along the highway.
