Female RTD staff jailed four years for masterminding RM754k armed robbery

KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department (RTD) clerk, who masterminded the recent RM754,840 armed heist at its Wangsa Maju branch, was today sentenced to four years jail by the Sessions Court.

Norzaisyima Ahmad Zaidi, 40, who worked in department's accounts and revenue unit, pleaded guilty to committing the offence at the department in Wangsa Maju at 5.30pm on July 4.

Norzaisyima, a mother-of-seven, was jointly charged with gravedigger Shamsuri Abdul Karim, 40; despatch rider Mohamad Afif Hussin, 26; and another person still at large, of robbing the department's accounts and income unit of RM754, 840 with a parang.

However, Shamsuri and Mohamad Afif, claimed trial before Judge Zainal L. Saleh and were given bail of RM10,000 in one surety, each.

Their case has been fixed for mention on Aug 10.

Shamsuri was represented by Shalehhuddin Salam while deputy public prosecutor Amira Sariaty Zainal, prosecuted.

Zainal ordered the sentence to take effect from Norzaisyima's date of arrest, July 11.

It was reported that nine people were arrested in relation to the robbery and that around RM111,000 was recovered.

In the incident, two men armed with parang had escaped with RM754,840 in cash after storming the office while the staff were counting the money.

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed two men, both wearing motorcycle helmets, entering the building.
