Ustaz collapses and dies while delivering sermon in Dungun mosque

DUNGUN: An ustaz, who was delivering a sermon after Maghrib prayers, collapsed and died at the Masjid Tengku Ampuan Intan Zaharah, on Friday.

Mohd Ramli Ahmad, 66, was winding up his sermon at 8pm when he suddenly fell silent and slumped in his chair.

He is believed to have suffered a heart attack.

The mosque’s imam Mohd Faiz Azmi Abd Kadir said said that members of the congregation rushed to his aid and laid him out on the floor.

“But it was already too late for Ramli,” said Faiz.

It is learnt that some of Ramli’s friends had advised him against delivering his weekly sermon as he had previously experienced difficulty after doing some stretching exercises.

Ramli however remained adamant that he would continue with his usual sermons.

Paramedics from the Civil Defence Department who arrived at the mosque shortly after, pronounced Ramli dead.

Dungun police chief Superintendent Ahmad Zailani Yaacob said Ramli’s body was sent to the Dungun Hospital for post-mortem.
