Police deny claims that MH370 pilot had charted ill-fated course weeks before incident

PUTRAJAYA: Police today denied reports claiming that the pilot of missing Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 had conducted a simulation of a similar path just weeks before helming the ill-fated flight.

MH370 is believed to have gone off route and ended its journey in the southern Indian Ocean.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the reports were merely speculative.

"No, that (the report) is not true and we can't conclude the investigation until we recover the aircraft's black box," Khalid said.

He declined to comment further on the matter.

Australian officials today said that data recovered from a home flight simulator owned by Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah, showed that someone had used the device to plot a course to the southern Indian Ocean, where the missing jet is believed to have crashed.

There has been confusion over exactly what was found on Zaharie's flight simulator since New York Magazine reported last week that an FBI analysis of the device showed Zaharie had conducted a simulated flight to the southern Indian Ocean, less than a month before the plane vanished along a similar route.
