Wahid Omar: PNB appointment is very meaningful to me

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, set to assume chairmanship of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) on Aug 1, today paid tribute to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak as well as his predecessor over his appointment.

In a statement today, Wahid, who is former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, described his new role as a huge responsibility.

“I am very grateful for the trust placed in me to fill the position previously held by Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid, who has contributed massively towards PNB.

“I thank him (Sarji) for all his efforts for PNB and its shareholders,” he said.

Wahid said the appointment is very meaningful for him as he had previously worked for two companies under PNB, which are the Maybank Group (2008-2013) and the Amanah Capital Group, which is now part of the MIDF Group (1994-2001).

“I pledge to perform to the best of my ability with honesty and trustworthiness,” he said.

Wahid was appointed as Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of Economic Planning in 2013. Wahid’s term as a senator ended earlier in June. Prior to that, he was president and CEO of Maybank.
