PM Lee wishes muslims 'a meaningful Ramadan'

SINGAPORE: Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong wished all Muslims in the country a meaningful Ramadan as they welcomed the holy month this evening.Muslims in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand will start fasting on Tuesday (March 12).

Lee said during this period, he would be joining the Muslim community to break fast and encouraged others to do so."Take the time to learn about other religions and cultures, something Singaporeans have the privilege of doing, in our multi-religious and multicultural society.

"Support local Ramadan bazaars too and soak in the liveliness of this season," he said in a Facebook post, today.Lee also noted that supplementary prayer spaces around the neighbourhood will be made available for tarawih prayers.

Previously, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) has said a total of 110,000 spaces will be provided at 69 mosques and up to 31 mosque-affiliated Qaryahs (communities) will offer about 12,000 spaces each night throughout the month of Ramadan for tarawih prayers.– BERNAMA
