KUALA LUMPUR: Nicol David set up a final showdown at the SRAM Women's Squash Invitational with India's Joshna Chinappa after they came through the semi-finals in contrasting fashion in Bukit Jalil on Saturday.
While Nicol cruised past Egypt's Omneya Abdel Kawy 11-4, 11-4, 11-6, Chinappa rallied from two games down to oust New Zealand's Joelle King 8-11, 5-11, 11-8, 11-4, 11-9.
The final meeting will be their second of the tournament after Nicol beat Chinappa in three games in the group stage.
Eight-time world champion Nicol made quick starts of 6-0 and 5-1 in the first two games and never let up the pressure on Abdel Kawy.
"I made sure she didn't play her (normal) game," said top seed Nicol at the National Squash Centre. "She's too strong and comfortable when she has time so I had to work harder to stay on top and put the pressure on. I'm really pleased the way I played today and excited to be in the final."
Chinappa looked to be heading to defeat after King went two games up but staged a remarkable comeback to reach Sunday's final.
"I've always lost to Joelle and today is the first time I've beaten her probably in a very long time," said World No 10 Chinappa.
"I was 2-0 down so I just tried to stay calm, get my length going and get more comfortable on court. I think I was lucky with a few points. In the end, she came back strong and it could have been anyone's game."
King and Abdel Kawy will face off in the third and fourth place playoff on Sunday while Malaysia's Delia Arnold takes on England's Jenny Duncalf in the battle for fifth place.
