Misplaced bag in Bangsar triggers 'bomb' scare'

KUALA LUMPUR: A bag mistakenly left on the sidewalk by a resident caused panic this afternoon as police rushed to the scene fearing the worst.

Jalan Terasek 8 in Bangsar was cordoned off by police at 12.30pm, as its canine and bomb squads were brought in to 'disarm' the suspicious black bag.

A police spokesman said they received an alert on the suspicious package at 12pm. A squad from the Jalan Pantai police station rushed to the scene to cordon off the area.

About 2.45pm, after the canine and bomb squads had moved in to check on the contents of the black bag, a resident arrived to claim the bag.

The resident, who declined to be named, admitted that the bag was mistakenly left there by her diabetic elderly mother and maid.

They only realised that they had left the bag after they noticed the commotion on the street outside their home.

Residents, however, had only praise for the police for their swift response to the situation. Some were seen calling out thanks to police officers for their attentiveness.
