Johor Datuk-ship to be stripped if recipients fail to attend Hari Hol events

MERSING: The Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar today warned those who had received the 'Datukship' from his late father that the award could be revoked if the individual fails to attend events in conjunction with 'Hari Hol' every year.

The ruler said 'Hari Hol' is set on 6 Safar in the Hijrah calendar every year, and is announced as a public holiday to commemorate the passing of his father, Almarhum Sultan Iskandar Sultan Ismail.

"If there are any recipients who are unwilling to sacrifice their time to attend the 'tahlil' or other events during 'Hari Hol', then I think it is better for the award to be sacrificed.

"If they are absent without any valid reason, I would assume that they are no longer interested in honouring the award and it is better for the award to be returned with respect, just as it was awarded.

"If not, I will announce the name of the recipients whose awards have been revoked, regardles if the recipient is a minister, a general or an ex-general," said Sultan Ibrahim in his address at the 51st anniversary celebration of the Rejimen Gerak Khas at Kem Iskandar, here today.

Also present were Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Idris, Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tunku Putera Johor Tunku Abu Bakar.
