Man jailed five months for beating up wife in fight over mistress

KUALA LUMPUR: A construction worker who assaulted his Filipina wife when they fought over his mistress, was today sent to jail for five months by the magistrate's court.

Sabahan Nasser Adli, 46, pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing hurt to Susana Cabrera Gato, 48, at his marital home at No 64-03-01 Flat C, Jalan 1/38J, Taman Indah Murni, Segambut Tengah at 9.30pm on June 5.

He also pleaded guilty to a second charge of criminal intimidation at the same place.

Magistrate Mahyudin Mohd Som sentenced Nasser to five months jail for the first offence and another five months for the second offence, and ordered both the sentences to run concurrently from his date of arrest, June 6.

According to the facts of the case, Nasser, who was having an affair with another Filipina, had come back home and accused Susana of sending an SMS to his mistress, which she had denied.

The angry Nasser then punched his wife in the stomach and hips when she refused to hand over the jewellery she was wearing, because he had wanted to give it to his mistress.

Nasser also had threatened to kill Susana during the fight.

Counsel Cyrus Tiu, in seeking a lenient sentence for Nasser, told the court that his client earned RM35 a day as a construction worker and suffers from a weak heart and leg pains.

"He is also supporting his 60-year-old mother who has a heart problems and has five children."

Deputy public prosecutor Nur Farah Adilah Nordin prosecuted.

In another magistrate's court, a bank clerk claimed trial to criminal intimidation.

Shamsul Amri Ab Wahab is alleged to have committed the offence by showing a knife to his colleague Mustaffa Kamal Ismail, 23, at the 9th Floor, Etiqa Building, Jalan Melaka at 9.30am on Aug 2.

Magistrate Ahmad Solihan Wahab set bail at RM2,500 in one surety and fixed Sept 8 for mention.

Shamsul was represented by Muniswer Poniah while Noorelynna Abd Halim prosecuted.
