PUTRAJAYA: Dengue cases continue to decline nationwide in week 30 (July 24 to 30) with only 1,896 cases recorded compared to 2,188 cases in the previous week.
However, Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham said six states showed an increase in the number of cases compared to previous week.
They are Kelantan (44 cases), Sarawak (14) Pahang (11), Malacca (11), Terengganu (2) and Perlis (one).
As for the cumulative number of cases, from Jan 30 to July 31, the total number of cases declined 7.2 per cent (5,062 cases) compared to the same period last year.
“There were five deaths recorded in week 30, which brings the cumulative death toll from Jan to July 30 to 147 people compared to 190 deaths in the same period last year, a decrease of 22.6 per cent.
“Based on observations carried out by the ministry, there was also lesser number of dengue hotspots from 98 (the week before) to 79 in week 30,” he said in a statement.
He said outbreak areas also showed a drop, from 770 localities in week 29 to 755 in week 30.
On the Zika virus, Dr Noor Hisham said 668 samples were tested by the National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) and the Institute for Medical Research (IMR) from June 2015 until July 30 with negative results for the Zika virus.
He said the World Health Organisation (WHO) has recorded 67 countries with outbreaks of Zika virus on July 28.
