Domestic Trade Ministry seize RM47,000 worth of fake Adidas goods

JOHOR BARU: The Johor Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry seized more than RM47,000 worth of fake Adidas goods at Taman Bukit Dahlia yesterday.

The ministry’s 12 enforcement officers raided three premises in Jalan Persiaran Taman Bukit Dahlia at 11.30am after it received complaints last week from the Adidas brand-owners’ representative in Johor Baru that counterfeit goods bearing the brand name were being sold.

Deputy enforcement director Rizq Fazliana Abd Hamid said the items seized included sportswear, jerseys, sports shoes and sandals. They fake goods were being sold in the local market for between RM50 and RM100 apiece.

"We detained two operators aged between 30 and 40. One of them was operating two premises and the other was operating one outlet selling the fake goods," she said.

She said all 2,217 units of fake goods have been confiscated. The two operators' statements will be taken to complete investigation.

She said the offence of selling counterfeit goods falls under Section 8(2)(b) of the Trade Description Act 2011. Those convicted face a RM10,000 fine for each of fake item sold, or imprisonment of up to three years, or both.
