PDRM receive mobile phone fragment from Thailand authorities

KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) today received a fragment of a mobile phone used in the bombing in Phuket.

The fragment was handed over by Thailand’s security authorities.

Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said they received a fragment has the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission’s (MCMC) serial number on it.

“We are willing to give full cooperation to Thailand’s authorities to facilitate investigations into the incident,” he told Bernama via Whatsapp application, here tonight.

In a Bernama report today, Thailand’s security forces were quoted as saying the authorities had sought Malaysia’s cooperation to identify the origin of the phone following the MCMC’s serial number.

The fragment with the serial number is an important evidence in the investigations to identify and track down the perpetrators responsible for the bomb blast, said the source. Mobile phones were used to activate or detonate homemade improvised explosive device (IED) in a series of bomb blasts which rocked Tailand’s southern provinces.

Yesterday, two home made bombs exploded in the popular island resort of Phuket, one each in Patong and Kathu at 7.45 am and 8.45am (local time).

One person suffered a minor injury. --Bernama
