5.1 earthquake strikes Halmahera, Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck Halmahera in Indonesia, the largest island in Maluku at 10.36 pm today.

The Meteorological Department in a statement said the epicentre of the quake was 101 kilometres (km) northwest of Ternate, Indonesia and 1,022 km of Semporna, Sabah.

The department said the quake did not pose any tsunami threat. -- Bernama
