CPI rose by 1.1 per cent in July

KUALA LUMPUR: The Consumer Price Index rose by 1.1 per cent in July compared to a year ago.

The Statistics Department said major groups which recorded increases were alcoholic beverages and tobacco (19.9 per cent), food and non-alcoholic beverages (3.8 per cent) and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (2.4 per cent).

It also noted that the overall index was influenced by the decrease in prices of transport (-9.9 per cent), communication (-2.3 per cent) and clothing and footwear (-0.6 per cent).
