(Badminton) Good day at the office for local shuttlers at Kedah Open

IT was a good day for some of the local shuttlers who successfully retained their national circuit crowns following the Kedah Open final today.

In women's singles, 16-year-old Goh Jin Wei saw off national teammate Ho Yen Mei 23-21, 21-16 for her third title this year.

Jin Wei, who won the first leg in Kuala Lumpur in May, also clinched the Orleans International title in March.

"It wasn't easy at all. I was a little lucky to have walked away the winner," said Jin Wei when contacted in Alor Star.

"It was a contest of nerves. The one with better control and patience won."

The 2015 world junior champion pocketed RM4,000 in prize money while Yen Mei settled for RM2,000.

On her future plans and target this year, Jin Wei added: "My next competition is the Indonesian Masters GP Gold.

"It's only the third quarter of the year and I think I can still push myself before the end of the year. Let's see how it goes."

Meanwhile mixed doubles pair Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing were also successful in the their quest for the double when they beat Hoo Pang Ron-Shevon Lai Jemie 21-13, 21-16 in the final.

The title is the pair's third this year after having won the first leg and the Vietnam Open GP last month.

The national No 2, who were only paired late last year, pocketed RM6,000 while Pang Ron-Shevon took home RM3,000.

Men's doubles Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi, were the other pair who successfully defended their crown yesterday with a 21-17, 21-11 win over independent duo Mohd Razif Latif-Muhammad Hafiz Hashim. Yew Sin-Ee Yi bagged RM12,000 while Razif-Hafiz settled for RM6,000.
