Boy killed after car collides with excavator

KUALA TERENGGANU: A 12-year-old boy was killed while his mother and four-year-old brother escaped with minor injuries when the car they were travelling in rammed into an excavator near kampung Banggol Katong, Serada, on Saturday.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Idris Abdul Rafar said Ahmad Mustakim Ab Rahman and brother Ahmad Aqil Solehah, together with their mother Maznah Mamat, 48, were on their way to Kuala Berang in Hulu Terengganu.

Idris said the car suddenly skidded and rammed into an excavator that was parked by the roadside.

It was learnt that the excavator's driver, aged 62, from the same village escaped unhurt in the 4.30pm incident.

Idris said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving and causing hurt.

"The Year Six pupil's remains were sent to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital for post mortem," he added.
