Search efforts ongoing for man feared drowned off Pantai Teluk Ketapang

KUALA NERUS: Search efforts are ongoing for a man who is feared drowned after the boat he was in capsized near Pantai Teluk Ketapang yesterday.

The boat was found about 300 metres away from where the boat capsized at 11.40am.

The search operation today focused along Tok Jembal beach.

Terengganu Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Rozizah Abnihajar said the missing man, identified as Zailan Ibrahim, 27, of Kampung Batu Papan, Kelantan.

Rozizah said a total of 26 rescuers from thebKuala Terengganu and Kuala Nerus stations including five divers were involved in the search and rescue operation today. As of 5pm, the victim is still missing.

"My men started the operation at 8.30am with the help of six policemen, eight Civil Defence Department officers and seven officers from the Maritime Department," she added.

Zailan was reported missing yesterday while his friend Mohd Zulkifli Jusoh, 32, was rescued when their boat capsized after being hit by strong waves.

It was learnt that they went fishing from the Teluk Ketapang beach at about 3pm. Zulkifli was saved by a fisherman who spotted him at sea around 6pm yesterday.
