Rescuers resume search for man feared drowned in Muar

MUAR: Search and rescue (SAR) operation for a 36-year-old man who was feared drowned while fishing in a river at Kampung Olak Jorak, Bukit Pasir, near here, yesterday resumed this morning.

At Press time, the victim has yet to be found.

Muar Fire and Rescue Department senior fire officer Baharudin Ab Rahman said the victim was reported missing by his friend, who was with him in the river at 5.32pm yesterday.

They were fishing when the friend noticed him missing and alerted the authorities.

Baharuddin said 17 personnel from its stations in Tangkak and Muar, were despatched to the scene to locate the victim.

However, due to heavy rain and rising water levels which posed a threat to the rescuers' safety, the operations was brought to halt late yesterday.

It was resumed early today.
