Globally-recognised achievements prove Malaysia is not a failed state, says Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: Achievements recorded under the Barisan Nasional administration have proved that Malaysia is not a failed state, as claimed by certain quarters and naysayers.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, in his Merdeka message at the Putra World Trade Centre tonight, said that despite the global economic slump and uncertainty, Malaysia's Gross Domestic Product nevertheless recorded a four per cent increase.

"Through relentless efforts by government agencies, the country enjoys many accomplishments such as being ranked 18th ranking in the 2015 Global Competitiveness Report by the World Economic Forum .

“Malaysia was also recognised by the World Bank in the aspect of ‘Ease of Doing Business; in which the country improved its ranking from 21st in 2010 to 18th last year.

“The country is also recognised as a progressive and dynamic Muslim country which upholds the principles of ‘wasatiyyah’ (moderation). Malaysia was ranked first in the Global Islamic Economy Indicator 2014-2015," he said.

Malaysia, he said, is also the world's main sukuk issuer, covering nearly 55 per cent of total global outstanding sukuk, valued at more than USD320 billion as of the end of 2015.
