SINGAPORE: A pregnant woman living in the Aljunied Crescent/Sims Drive area was tested positive for Zika virus infection, according to Singapore Ministry of Health.
In a statement late Wednesday, MOH said a doctor is following up the case closely to monitor her health and the development of her baby.
“She will be referred to a maternal-foetal medicine (MFM) specialist for counselling and advice,” said the Ministry.
Singapore had on Tuesday advised pregnant women in Singapore with symptoms of Zika - like fever and rash, red eyes or joint pains - to be tested for Zika virus infection.
MOH and its Clinical Advisory Group (CAG) on Zika and Pregnancy said those with male partners who are Zika-positive are also advised to do so.
MOH and CAG noted that the test is free at the public healthcare institutions for pregnant women who are referred by their doctors .
In a related development, MOH said that it had identified a potential cluster of Zika virus infection at the Bedok North Avenue 3 area and 24 new cases were identified Wednesday.
It was reported that the total number of cases identified since Saturday was 115. -- Bernama
