Technology transforms lives

THIS Merdeka, many are celebrating by being a part of the festivities, or by simply taking a quiet moment to reflect on the country’s achievements.

I take this moment to look at the transformation of our nation as a journey in progress. I’m optimistic of the direction the country is taking, especially as we enter the Fourth Industrial Revolution, where the digital world has begun to change many aspects of our lives and businesses.

In today’s mobile-first, cloud-first world, we see an increasing number of Malaysians adopting the digital lifestyle and new technologies to emerge as a data-driven nation. Technology has revolutionised the way we communicate, interact with and organise information.

The technology industry is undergoing a transformation as we celebrate our 59th National Day. With the advent of big data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence and Internet of things (IoT), there is never a dull moment. Coming from Microsoft, I am thrilled to witness how technology can transform the livelihood of fellow Malaysians.

We are bringing the same ideals to Malaysia through Microsoft’s mission — connecting the benefits of technology to those who need them most. Since Microsoft established its presence in this country 20 years ago, our technology has helped transform the way people work, learn, play and communicate. We continue to work closely with the government, organisations and citizens to help them reap the benefits of innovation.

We want to continue making technology accessible to all Malaysians. We’re doing so with initiatives such as our recent partnership with the Prisons Department of Malaysia to provide juvenile inmates upskilling opportunities in entrepreneurship and capacity-building.
