Labuan Home Help 2016 programme enriches lives of four families [VIDEO]

LABUAN: Two hundreds volunteers lent their hands and time to help four families clean their homes under the Labuan Home Help 2016 programme.

Home Help 2016 is a continuation of what the Federal Territories Ministry started in July, under their ‘Program Sahur’ where they provided food for the needy during the fasting month.

Datuk Bashir Alias, chairman of the Labuan Corporation Advisory Council, said the 200 volunteers are from the Labuan State Social Welfare Department (JKM), Chee Cheng Khor Moral Uplifting Society, Red Crescent Malaysia, Boy Scouts, students of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), students of Institut Latihan Perindustrian ILP Labuan, and members of the Labuan Community Council.

“Labuan Home Help this time around focuses more on youth engagement as it is part of the programme’s aim, to instill compassion among the young towards a caring and empathetic community,” said Bashir.

One of the recipients of the Home Help 2016 programme, Masni Puteh, said she was grateful for the assistance.

“I’m wheelchair-bound so it is quite difficult for me to go anywhere. I am thankful that they sent a medical team here to conduct checks on me. They also replaced some of the old flooring with new ones. I can’t thank them enough,” said Masni.

The four families’ homes were cleaned, given a fresh coat of paint, and also given groceries and electrical appliances from Aifa Electrics Labuan.
