Kelantan citizens advised to be wary about Zika

JELI: The Kelantan Health Department urged the people in the state to be wary about the Zika virus.

Its director Datuk Dr Ahmad Razin Ahmad Mahir said this was important as Thailand had reported Zika cases.

“The people must pay attention to self-protection like wearing long-sleeved shirts, shawls and using mosquito repellents,” he told reporters after opening the state-level World Health Day celebration here today.

Dr Ahmad Razin said that to date, the department had yet to receive any reports on Zika cases in the state.

On dengue cases, Dr Ahmad Razin said seven deaths were reported from January till this week as compared to six fatalities the whole of last year.

There were 3,829 dengue cases until early this month (Sept) statewide compared to 1,876 cases during the same period last year, he added. -- Bernama
