Egyptian man missing after falling off Langkawi hotel balcony and into ocean

LANGKAWI: An Egyptian man is missing at sea, after he is believed to have fallen from his hotel balcony here this afternoon.

The victim was identified as Yahya Yousry Mohamad Al-Sayid, 27. He had been staying at the Berjaya Hotel Resort here prior to the 4pm incident.

The victim's wife reported the incidnent to the hotel staff, said Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) northern region maritime director First Admiral Tan Kok Kwee.

"The victim has since gone missing. We have yet to be able to find him due to stormy weather and strong waves.

"A search and rescue (SAR) operation was mounted at 4.30pm, involving MMEA, the Fire and Rescue Department, the Civil Defence Department and police.

"At this juncture, he has yet to be found. If conditions do not permit, SAR operations will be suspended today and continued tomorrow morning," he said in a statement today.
