Dengue cases show downward trend nationwide

PUTRAJAYA: Dengue cases nationwide have shown a downward trend in the past two weeks.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham said that in the 36th week (September 4 to 10), the number of dengue cases reduced by 2.2 per cent with only 2,095 cases compared to the week before with 2,143 cases.

“From Jan to Sept 10, the cumulative number of dengue cases nationwide dropped 8.7 percent (7,411 cases) with only 78,077 cases compared to 85,488 cases in the same period last year.

“In the same period, the cumulative deaths recorded also showed a reduction of 24.8 percent with 176 deaths compared to 234 deaths in 2015,” he said in a statement today.

The number of dengue localities also reduced from 770 in the previous week to 716 localities.

Similarly, hotspots have decreased from 104 localities to 98 localities at reported in five states, namely Selangor (82 localities), Kelantan (7 localities), Johor (6 localities), Federal Territories Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya (2 localities) and Sabah (1 locality).

However, Dr Noor Hisham said there are seven states which showed an increas in the number of case compared to the previous week. These include Johor (21.7 per cent), Sabah (25.3 per cent), Negri Sembilan (52.3 percent), Perak (46.3 per cent), Perlis (100 per cent), Sarawak (10.9 per cent and Federal Territory Labuan (100 per cent).
