Five RTD officers arrested by MACC in Kedah, Perlis sweep

SUNGAI PETANI: Five Road Transport Department (RTD) officers, including four assistant enforcement officers and a vehicle inspector, were arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Kedah and Perlis today.

An MACC spokesman said the special operation, dubbed Op 4x4, was a collaboration between the Kedah and Perlis MACC as well as MACC headquarters' Intelligence Division in Putrajaya.

“In Perlis, we arrested two assistant enforcement officers and a vehicle inspector currently attached to the Arau RTD office in Perlis,” said the spokesman.

The three men, aged 48, 43 and 36, were believed to received bribes of between RM100 to RM300 on several occasions in the state since last year from lorry drivers with overloaded cargo.

Meanwhile, in Kedah, two assistant enforcement officers currently attached to the Kulim RTD, were arrested at their office between 11.30am and 12.10pm today.

The two men, both aged 34, were also believed to have received bribes of around RM100 on several occasions in the state last year from lorry drivers with overloaded cargo.

The two men were brought to the MACC office in Sungai Petani for questioning.

The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

MACC intelligence director Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahya when contacted confirmed the arrest of the five RTD officers.

He however declined to elaborate on the matter.
