Perak targets two dengue hotspots in Ipoh

IPOH: Massive cleanup operations will be conducted at two dengue hotspots in Perak, namely Kampung Datuk Ahmad Said Tambahan 3 and Kampung Sungai Tapah Tambahan.

Perak Health director Datuk Dr Juita Ghazalie said this was in line with the Health Ministry’s directive to combat the Aedes mosquito yesterday.

He said the date for the operations would be announced soon.

She said the two locations were chosen after they had recorded the highest number of dengue cases in the state.

Kampung Datuk Ahmad Said Tambahan 3 has 11 dengue cases while Kampung Sungai Tapah Tambahan recorded seven cases within 30 days.

“Both locations now have epidemic status,” she said.

Dr Juita said one of the programmes under the massive cleanup operations would include a mega ‘gotong-royong’.

Yesterday, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said the Cabinet had decided to launch massive cleanup operations nationwide to fight the Aedes mosquito, which is the vector for dengue, Zika and Chikungunya viruses.

He said the campaign would be coordinated by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa.

He said all government ministries and agencies would pool their resources, including financially, to carry out the cleanup operations.
