Two Ipoh brothers face multiple charges of gang robbery, burglary

IPOH: Two brothers were jointly charged at the Sessions Court here today with two counts of armed gang robbery using a knife and a machete last month.

Mohamad Hafiz Naharoddin, 28, and Ahmad Fazrin Naharoddin, 31, however pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them before Judge Ainon Shahrin Mohamad.

On the first count, the duo robbed S.Sarala, 36, of RM200 in cash at KK Hanans Cash and Carry in Desa Rishah Indah here at about 3.35pm on Oct 12.

On the second count, the duo robbed S. Latchemee, 50, of Samsung Note 3 mobile phones, an Oppo mobile phone, a gold ring, handbag containing an identification card, credit card, bank card, a pair of earrings and RM200 at a computer shop in Desa Rishah Shah, Menglembu at about 11.30am on Oct 23.

In the same proceeding, Fazrin was charged with someone who is still at large with armed gang robbery against Halimatonrahmah Ab Rahman, 35, and robbed her of mobile phones and RM130.

This offence was committed at a vape shop in Taman Seri Meru here at 9pm on Oct 5.

Meanwhile, in the same proceeding, Ahmad Fazrin with another person who is still at large pleaded not guilty to two counts of armed robbery gang last month.

He committed the offences at a pharmacy in Jalan Tun Abdul Razak here and a convenience store at Taman Perindustrian Menglembu Jaya on Oct 6 and Oct 17, respectively.

Deputy public prosecutors Evangelin Simon Silvaraj and Qurratu'aini Khalifah prosecuted while the duo were represented by a lawyer, R. R Segaran.

All the offences fall under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code which provide for a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping.

The court set bail at RM25,000 for Ahmad Fazrin and RM10,000 for Mohamad Hafiz, with one surety for each of the accused. The court fixed Jan 11 for mention.

Meanwhile, Mohamad Hafiz was charged with drug trafficking for a separate case at the magistrate's court here today.

He was charged with trafficking drugs weighing 34.87 grams by the roadside in Jalan Rapat Baru Ipoh at about 4.45pm on Oct 23.

He nodded to indicate that he understood the charge before magistrate Siti Nora Sharif and no bail was offered for this offence.

He was charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and can be punished under Section 39B(2) of the same act, which provides for the death penalty or life imprisonment and shall, if not sentenced to death, be punished with at least 12 strokes of the cane if found guilty.

Mohamad Hafiz is also facing separate charges for break-ins and burglary.

He pleaded not guilty to break-ins at two shops in Manjoi and Taman Rasi Jaya here on Sept 14 and Oct 17, respectively.

The offence, under Section 380 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum 10 years' imprisonment and a fine, upon conviction.

He pleaded not guilty for committing burglary at a house in Taman Mei Kin, Pasir Puteh between 8.30am and 1.30pm on Oct 20.

The offence is under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 14 years and a fine, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutors Noor Nabilah Norzam and Nurul Hidayu Zakaria prosecuted.

Siti Nora then fixed RM4,500 bail for Ahmad Fazrin for all charges and set Jan 11 next year for mention.
