Man dies while trimming tree, body left trapped in branches

NILAI: A 59 year-old man died while trimming his neighbour’s tree and was left trapped in its branches at Bayu Lake Homes, Mantin here this morning.

District police chief Superintendent Zaldino Zaludin said a post-mortem revealed that the victim, Nik Ab Rahman Mohd Nor, had succumbed to a heart attack.

Zaldino said the victim had left home at about 7.45am to help his neighbour trim the 4-metre bucida molineti tree.

“According to the victim’s wife, she received a call from friends informing her that Nik had collapsed and was trapped in a tree.

“They then called the Fire and Rescue department for rescue,” he said.

Operation chief from Mantin fire station, Zakaria Jabar, said they found the victim trapped in the branches.

“We received a report that a man was collapsed in the tree at 9.15am. It took us about 10 minutes to bring the victim down,” he said.

“He was pronounced dead at the scene by Mantin health clinic medical personnel,” said Zaldino, adding that his remains were later brought to Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital (HTJ) for an autopsy.

A close friend of the victim, who refused to be named, said Nik was a kind-hearted man who was always offering to helps others.

“This was not the first time he had helped residents here trimming trees. I did not foresee this happening. He was a hardworking and friendly man,” he said when met at HTJ mortuary.
